Poland’s Solar Subsidy For Grid Scale Battery Storage

On April 4th, The Polish National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) launched a brand-new investment support program for grid scale battery storage, offering enterprises subsidies of up to 65%.

This highly anticipated subsidy program aims to enhance the stability of the national power grid and energy security.

The project requires that the grid-scale battery energy storage system have a capacity of ≥ 2MW/4MWh and be connected to either a medium or high-voltage network. The funding covers equipment procurement, battery storage system integration, testing, and the construction of related supporting infrastructure, as well as extended investment items such as network access configuration.

Under the EU Modernisation Fund subsidy program, over PLN 4 billion (approximately $1 billion USD) will be allocated by the end of 2025 to achieve the goal of putting more than 5 GWh of grid scale energy storage into operation by 2028.

Grid Scale Battery Storage

The Polish photovoltaic market has experienced rapid growth in the past two years. With the current round of subsidies for grid battery storage, it presents a great opportunity for power station investors and grid-scale battery storage companies. Both opportunities for commercial battery storage projects on the user side and energy storage projects on the source-grid side are worth considering.
