3.2V 688Ah LiFePO4 Cell

The China EESA Energy Storage Exhibition on September 2 witnessed the unveiling of a novel 3.2V 688Ah LiFePO4 battery cell exclusively designed for energy storage applications. It’s the super large LiFePO4 cell in the world!

The 688Ah LiFePO4 cell represents the next generation of energy storage technology, featuring an upgraded design across the entire product range. With a width measuring approximately 320mm, this wide-bodied cell maintains a similar height and thickness to the existing 3.2V 280Ah LiFePO4 cells and 314Ah lithium LiFePO4 cells.

Importantly, substantial innovations have been made in the electrochemical system, cell manufacturing process design, and overall case design of this new dedicated energy storage cell with a capacity of LFP 688Ah.

The implementation of the third generation high energy density lithium battery system in electrochemical systems has resulted in a cell capacity density of 435+ Wh/L, which is 6% higher than the previous 314Ah lithium battery cell. Furthermore, the cell boasts an energy efficiency that exceeds 96%, a cycle life surpassing 10,000 full operating condition cycles, and a calendar life extending beyond 20 years.

To ensure utmost safety measures are taken into account, diaphragm heat shrinkable self-closing technology and alumina ceramic coating are employed to prevent internal particle infiltration and lithium dendrite penetration through the diaphragm. Simultaneously focusing on high efficiency aspects, each individual cell achieves a capacity of 2.2 KWH while increasing the system capacity to reach up to 6.9MWh.

Key features of 688Ah cell:

⭐ 688Ah ultra-large capacity
⭐ 320mm width
⭐ 435+ Wh/L cell energy density
⭐ >10,000 times cycle life
⭐ >20 years calendar life

The latest generation of cell cover plate and aluminum shell design has been adopted to enhance the strength of the LFP cell in terms of cell structure design. In terms of process route, the choice of folding process further improves the internal space profit rate, increases the energy density, and enhances interface consistency.

After systematically decomposing the entire 20-foot container, a 688Ah lithium iron phosphate cell with a capacity of 6.9MWh was successfully developed. In a limited space, it is possible to design 688Ah lithium phosphate cell that meet this size requirement according to customer requirements. This cell not only defines its own characteristics and size, but also determines its capacity and energy.

With the standard 20-foot container equipped with a 688Ah capacity, the total energy storage capacity of the system is increased to 6.9MWh+, truly achieving operational end "cost reduction and efficiency improvement" such as reduced project site area, lower investment costs, long service life, and long-term storage. This has significantly improved the return on investment for power station projects.

The 3.2V 688Ah LFP battery cell is expected to be mass-produced and delivered in the 4th quarter of 2025. The launch of the 688Ah LiFePO4 cell aims to promote standardization of lithium storage battery specifications and jointly create a new pattern for the lithium battery solar storage application market.
